Non-Surgical Therapy
We believe in the least invasive and most cost-effective treatment for periodontal disease. Non-surgical care may include scaling and root planing, a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and tartar from deep periodontal pockets. This process also involves smoothing the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins and is often followed by adjunctive therapy, such as local delivery antimicrobials and host modulation, on a case-by-case basis.
After scaling and root planing, many patients do not require any further active treatment, but the majority of patients will require ongoing maintenance therapy to sustain optimal oral health. After treatment, Dr. Khokhar will put together a customized maintenance plan for home and our office. Non-surgical therapy does have its limitations. In some cases, surgery may be indicated to restore damaged tissues and to facilitate adequate oral hygiene practices.
